My Recommended Gym Gear

Simple, effective tools for beginners and intermediate lifters.

Whether you’re just starting or getting back into lifting, the right gear makes a difference. Below is what I personally use or recommend. No fluff, no hype.

Shoes for Lifting

Why they matter:
Wearing proper footwear during squats and deadlifts helps you stay stable and keeps you form tight.

Budget Pick: Converse Chuck Taylors
Premium Pick: Reebok Nano X

These two will be great for squatting and deadlifts. Nano can also help if you plan to do cardio. If you want the shoe I used in high school, here you go

Lifting Belt

Why it matters:
Belts don’t “protect your back.” They help you brace your core harder, which improves form and power.

Budget Pick: Harbinger 4-Inch Nylon Belt

  • Great for beginners
  • Lightweight and adjustable
  • Easy on/off between sets

Premium Pick: Gymreapers Lever Belt

  • Stiff leather, lever buckle
  • Great for serious lifting (squats, deadlifts)
  • Premium feel

Wrist straps & Wraps

Why they matter:
Straps help when your grip gives out before your muscles do. Wraps support your wrists during pressing movements.

Lifting Straps:
Used to help you grip the bar during pulling movements.

When to use:
Deadlifts, barbell rows, lat pulldowns

Straps: Gymreapers Lifting Straps

Wrist Wraps:
Used to support your wrists during pressing movements.

When to use: Bench press, overhead press, dips

Wraps: Rip Toned Wrist Wraps

Many beginners confuse the two. If you’re doing deadlifts, go straps. If you’re pressing heavy, go wraps.

Optional Home Gym Gear

If you train at home or just want versatility, these are great additions:

I’ve used or have friends with this gear. I personally don’t use any of this at the moment, but for home workout options they are ideal.
